Where I'm From
By Cali King (6th Grade, Bay Academy, Brooklyn, NY)

I am from knitting needles
From Pepsi and Tide
I am from the closet in my room
(It is really dark. Full of clothes)
I am from the white Rose
The maple tree
Whose Syrup I remember flows as if it was my own blood

I am from Ices and shortness
From Robert and Loretta
I am from i wasn't born yesterday
From cheer up and calm down
I am from my choices reflect your character

I am from snow white and cinderella
Fried chicken and rice
From the trouble my grandma
Got into as a kid
To the Pepsi she drinks
Under my bed is a photo album
Full of old pictures
A sift of good memories
Some bad too
Before i was born
But now budding of my family tree

Cali's Inspiration:

How I was inspired? In Brooklyn College Summer Camp, we had to write a poem about where we come from. After a year when i discovered this website I thought about submitting this poem and hope it shows you my background.
